Getting Started
-
Start by importing a dataset or creating a dataset with random values. Click on the Import category icon to see the available importing operations.
-
Select the relevant operation icon, which will open that operation's configuration wizard.
-
Continue through the configuration wizard by selecting [Next], [Finish] or [Previous] when each step is completed.
-
If a field has been completed with incorrect information or character types, the [Next] and [Finish] buttons will be disabled until this has been corrected.
-
If applicable, a runnability check will notify you if there is an error in the configuration.
-
The steps that are required for configuring the operation are listed on the left hand side, with the current step listed in bold font.
-
On the last configuration page, the [Next] button will be disabled and the [Finish] button will be enabled. This implies that the operation is ready to execute.
-
By clicking [Finish], you will see the data operation being executed.
-
The newly added or manipulated dataset will populate the workspace canvas, and depending on the view chosen in the menu, various details about the dataset are listed:
-
The dataset name
-
The icon of the last operation applied
-
The name of the last operation applied,
-
The number of fields in the dataset, and
-
The number of rows in the dataset.
-
-
Right clicking on the dataset will list all options applicable to the dataset. This includes listing the operation categories, the different ways in which the data can be viewed, and to rename or delete the dataset.
-
Right clicking on the canvas will list all options applicable to the current canvas view. This includes changing the information view about each of the datasets, hiding the operation palette, or the import data category, listing the different import operations.
-
The panel at the bottom of the canvas provides the function buttons used to load any dataset into the Troubleshooters s. At this point, data is saved to memory.
Data recipes
A data recipe is a set of instructions and actions to perform on your data before loading it for visualization in step 2 of the Troubleshooter. When creating a new dataset after applying an operation to a dataset, the new dataset is known as a "child" dataset and the original is a "parent" dataset.
-
Data recipes can be tracked by means of connecting lines between parent and child datasets.
-
When selecting a dataset, the parent datasets in the recipe will become highlighted with a blue border.
-
For some operations, you need to select a dataset, and for others, you need to have no dataset selected. The operations will become active when you have selected the correct item.
-
A selected dataset is indicated by a dashed border around the dataset.
-
Data recipes can be saved as a .DRCP file, and exported to other applications, or imported. This reduces the amount of time required for preparing data, as data recipes can be shared and reused.
-
Data recipes can be opened in either of the Troubleshooters s. Click [File] > [Open] > and for the textbox: Files of type, select Data recipe.DRCP types from the drop down menu.
Locked datasets
When a child dataset is added, the parent dataset becomes locked. This prevents the operation categories: Add fields, Remove fields or Modify dataset from being executed on these locked datasets, in order to prevent inadvertently attempting to change the current dataset instead of creating a new one.
Either delete the child dataset in order to break the lock on the parent dataset, or copy the parent dataset and continue with other operations.
